About me
Specialist Dietitian, researcher & educator
I am Dr Xenofon Tzounis, an HCPC-registered Specialist Dietitian and a member of the British Dietetic Association, with many years of NHS experience in diabetes, weight management, bariatric care, endocrinology, gastroenterology and nutrition support. I also work as a Senior Lecturer in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Hertfordshire, supporting the training of the next generation of dietitians.
My journey into nutrition and dietetics has always been driven by a deep interest in how food, good health, metabolism and lifestyle are connected. My academic journey began with a BSc in Food Science and Technology (Technological Educational Institution, now the University of West Attica, Greece), followed by a Master’s degree in Food Science and Quality Assurance and a PhD in Human Nutrition and Gut Microbiology (University of Reading, UK).
After completing my research training, which included a dietary human trial on the effect of polyphenols on gut and cardiac health, I studied Human Nutrition and Dietetics (London Metropolitan University, UK), where I found my passion for working directly with people.

Over the years I have had the privilege of working across clinical practice, research and education, which has shaped the way I support people today. What I enjoy most about dietetics is helping people make sense of confusing nutrition information and turning it into advice that is clear, realistic and personal. Nutrition is not just about knowing what to eat; it is also about your routines, emotions, culture, work, family life, motivation, confidence and the challenges of everyday living.
As a university lecturer I teach clinical nutrition, diet therapy, behaviour change, enteral feeding, oral nutrition support, gastrointestinal disorders and weight management. This keeps me close to current evidence and helps me keep developing as both a clinician and educator.
In my NHS posts I pride myself on delivering nutrition advice that is clear, safe, practical and respectful of the person in front of me. In my private practice I employ the same values: my role is to guide, support and empower you to make changes that work for your health and your life. Diet Philosophy is my independent private practice, a space for calm, considered, individualised nutrition care outside of an NHS setting.
My approach
My approach is evidence-based, person-centred and practical. I do not believe in one-size-fits-all advice or unrealistic plans; I work with each person to understand their goals, medical history, lifestyle and barriers, then develop a plan that feels achievable and sustainable.
My aim
My aim is simple: to help people feel more informed, supported and confident about their health, whether you are managing diabetes, struggling with weight, preparing for or recovering from bariatric surgery, experiencing gut symptoms or navigating menopause.

Plain English. No jargon, no fad claims. Where evidence is uncertain, that's said clearly too.
